The Incidence of Clinically Significant Hypotony After Trabeculectomy.

Journal of glaucoma·April 1, 2026·PMID: 41692420

What's New

Only 20% of eyes with numerically low pressure after trabeculectomy developed clinical signs of hypotony, and Asian ethnicity was associated with lower risk.

Detailed Summary

A retrospective cohort study of 992 eyes that underwent trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C found that 28.6% had numerical hypotony but only 10% met criteria for clinical hypotony. Asian ethnicity (OR 0.29; P=0.015) and postoperative suture lysis (OR 0.49; P=0.006) were each associated with lower odds of clinically significant hypotony.

Study Population

992 eyes of patients who underwent trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C for glaucoma
