Real-World Weight Loss Is Associated With a Reduction in Cancer Risk.
What's New
Nonsurgical weight loss was associated with a lower risk of obesity-related cancer in adults with obesity over 3- and 5-year periods.
Detailed Summary
A retrospective observational study of 143,630 adults with a BMI of 30 or higher found that each 1% reduction in BMI was associated with lower obesity-related cancer risk at 3 years (OR 0.990; p<0.001) and 5 years (OR 0.989; p<0.001), with a non-significant trend at 10 years (OR 0.992; p=0.057). Similar associations were observed for non-obesity-related cancers.
Study Population
143,630 adults with a BMI of 30 or higher from a US integrated health system (2000-2022)
