Comparison of Semaglutide and Lifestyle Counselling for Weight Loss Using Multi-Site Electronic Health Records.

Clinical obesity·April 1, 2026·PMID: 41830068

What's New

Semaglutide was associated with significantly higher rates of achieving 10% or greater weight loss compared to lifestyle counselling alone in adults with obesity.

Detailed Summary

A multi-site retrospective observational study using electronic health records compared semaglutide (minimum 16 weeks) to lifestyle counselling in propensity score-matched adults with obesity. Hazard ratios for achieving 10% weight loss favored semaglutide in both non-diabetic (HR 1.63; 95% CI, 1.32-2.01; p<0.001) and diabetic (HR 2.45; 95% CI, 1.47-4.09; p<0.001) populations.

Study Population

Adults with obesity, including 495 non-diabetic and 120 diabetic propensity score-matched participants per group (n=3,927 total eligible)
