Three-Year Follow-Up of the PACI Randomized Controlled Trial (PACI-ON): Effects of Early Intervention for Atopic Dermatitis on Atopic March.

Allergy·April 1, 2026·PMID: 41721996

What's New

Early enhanced topical corticosteroid therapy for infant atopic dermatitis was associated with a sustained modest reduction in food allergy prevalence at age 3.

Detailed Summary

A 3-year follow-up of the PACI RCT tracked 590 children randomized in infancy to early enhanced (proactive) or conventional (reactive) topical corticosteroid treatment for atopic dermatitis. At age 3, the enhanced group had lower food allergy prevalence (47.4% vs. 58.8%, p=0.006), primarily driven by reduced raw egg allergy, though no differences were observed for wheeze, asthma, or rhinitis.

Study Population

590 children with atopic dermatitis enrolled in infancy and followed to age 3 years
